Presentation of Beitou
Located just outside Taipei and accessible by metro, Beitou District is the perfect base if you want to explore Taiwan’s hot spring culture. Situated in a valley between the city to the south and Yangmingshan National Park to the north, this large part of the capital was built around a river and offers a pleasant escape from city life.
The visit also offers an interesting perspective on the island’s past, Beitou being quite popular with the Japanese occupants, whose influence can be felt on the places: the Plum Garden, a sort of villa-museum with Japanese architecture, the Beitou Museum, formerly a Japanese inn housing kamikazes for their last night… The hot springs museum also looks back at the history of these on the island.

How to get to Beitou?
Take Metro Line 2 (Tamsui-Xinyi Line) and get off at Beitou or Xinbeitou Station.
