Introduction to the Sun Yat-Sen Memorial Hall in Taipei
Built in memory of the “father” of the Republic of China, this memorial was opened in 1972 at the request of Chiang Kai-Shek, one of Sun Yat-sen’s successors as head of the government of the new China. The doctor played a decisive role in the overthrow of the Qing dynasty and the establishment of the Republic of China.
The memorial’s main hall contains a large statue of Sun Yat-sen and chronicles the actions that made him famous. Today, it hosts major events and meetings, such as the Golden Horse Awards, one of the most prestigious awards in Chinese cinema (mainland China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, etc.).
The park located within the memorial, little frequented, offers a relaxing setting.
