Taipei 101 Overview
Completed in 2004, the Taipei 101 tower was the world’s tallest skyscraper until 2010. At 509 meters and with 101 floors (hence the name), it is a masterpiece of ingenuity and modernism, paying homage to both Taiwanese and Chinese culture on the island. Built like a pagoda resembling a giant bamboo pole, it also features a shock absorber weighing over 600 tons, allowing the building to counter the effects of the strong winds and various earthquakes to which the island is subject.
Designed by Chinese architect C. Y. Lee, Taipei 101 now houses a shopping center, restaurants and a large observation deck, accessible by the world’s fastest elevator (60 km/h), offering a 360-degree view of the city and the surrounding mountains.
On the ground floor of the tower there is also a restaurant originally from Taiwan called Din Tai Fung 鼎泰豐, world-renowned and present in several countries, where you can taste excellent dumplings and other xiaolongbao, all presented by a waitress who speaks your language if you wish.
