Some pictures of Yingge and Sanxia

Presentation of Yingge and Sanxia
Located in Taipei County yet away from the hustle and bustle of the capital, Yingge and Sanxia, once small towns, are now part of Taipei City. What makes them excellent destinations to explore, even if only for a day, is that they offer a glimpse into the island’s past from two different perspectives:

On one side, Yingge and its ceramics
On the other, Sanxia and its architecture from Japanese colonization

Yingge is Taiwan’s number one destination for ceramic and pottery trade and crafts. It has several hundred sales and production outlets capable of recreating authentic styles evoking the periods of ancient Chinese dynasties, as well as more modern attempts at innovation. You can even get your hands dirty if you wish. If you have had the opportunity to taste and buy Taiwanese tea, visiting Yingge will be the opportunity to find a unique tea set that cannot be found elsewhere! There is also a ceramic museum to visit on site. Sanxia and its shopping streets were, historically, an important center of trade and commerce in Taiwan. Although Sanxia has lost its economic importance today, the place has a certain soul that gives an insight into the period of Japanese domination, through an architecture that is not found elsewhere on the island: red brick buildings, narrow streets… In addition, some historical places are also worth the detour, such as the Qingshui Zushi temple, almost 250 years old and which has seen its architecture renewed over the centuries due to successive destructions (earthquakes, bombings, etc.). It is advisable to go to Sanxia during the week and not during the weekends, in order to avoid the crowds, which allows you to better appreciate the architecture and why not exchange with local traders and artisans.
